Local context

What we see when we work in Essex

Practical, area-specific notes — not generic copy.

Essex County Council covers 12 districts across one of the most demographically varied counties in England — over 1.5 million residents stretching from the London commuter towns of Harlow, Brentwood and Epping Forest in the west, to Chelmsford and Colchester in the centre, to Clacton, Frinton, Walton and Mersea on the Tendring coast. Southend and Thurrock are separate unitary authorities, but we cover them too — see those pages.

Essex is a designated Mental Health Investment Standard area and Essex Partnership University NHS FT (EPUT) provides specialist mental health, learning disability and autism services across the county. Adult ADHD and autism diagnostic waits in mid- and west-Essex remain among the longest in the East of England, and many of our clients are mid-life self-identified.

Essex's coastal communities — particularly Tendring and Jaywick — sit in some of the most deprived wards in the East of England. We make sessions financially accessible there through our Pay It Forward model and we are willing to work with referrals from local authority advice agencies.

We work in former London Plotland bungalows in Basildon and Wickford, post-war estates in Harlow, modern executive estates around Chelmsford, Victorian terraces in Colchester, and small flats and bungalows on the Tendring coast.

For commissioners & professionals

Working with Essex County Council

If you are a social worker, OT, housing officer, safeguarding lead or commissioner in Essex, here is how Neatly fits alongside your work.

Statutory alignment

We deliver a person-centred, trauma-informed model that complements Care Act 2014 (or the equivalent Scottish, Welsh or NI framework) assessments and multi-agency self-neglect & hoarding work. We are explicitly NOT a deep-clean contractor.

Procurement & commissioning

Neatly is willing to engage with ECC Adult Social Care, ECC SEND commissioning, and the Mid & South Essex / Suffolk & North East Essex ICBs. We support multi-agency hoarding plans and have a trauma-informed model suited to Essex SAB priorities.
